"Only when you become willing to let everything go, do you actually get to keep it."
Trickled back into a very mild self-practice this morning, only about 30 minutes prior to the doctor's suggested time.
Six days ago, I was standing on my head with no hands in the white sand of Carabao.
This morning, I was unable to maintain a simple supported headstand - an action I've been doing since I was 4 years old.
If I can't headstand, can I still be a yogi? Can I still inspire the world around me and teach my students?
The answer is yes.
In fact, I believe the struggles I encountered on the mat today have given me a perspective into the journeys of those students I've found it most difficult to connect with - those who are injured or recovering, those with limited flexibility or strength, those new to the practice, those with fear, and those rebuilding.
Even if I never headstand again, I will be a better yogi and teacher for this very humbling moment.
